Campaign News

Our latest Diocesan conference  took place on 16th January 2010
"A fantastic day with wonderful speakers, songs and liturgy!"  "Really inspiring "

Our thanks to John Bell of the Iona community who led us in reflection about issues of justice in trade and environment, and in world music; to Barbara Crowther of the Fairtrade Foundation, Sophie Tranchell of Divine, Alex Georgiou of Cafedirect who gave us a clearer picture of the impact and importance of Fairtrade; and to Catherine Brogan, performance poet, who shared a poem specially written for Fairtrade.

Fairtrade Fortnight 2009

Fairtrade Church - Make it Happen
Our first Fairtrade conference in the Diocese of London
10th  January 2009

Aiming to encourage our churches to move forward with Fairtrade

The programme included Barbara Crowther of the Fairtrade
Foundation who spoke of the progress of, and challenges
to, the Fairtrade movement, and the nitty-gritty of promoting Fairtrade in our parishes which was discussed in smaller workshops.  There were of course Fairtrade refreshments, a demonstration Fairtrade stall, and plenty of resources to hand.

St Aldhelms Silver Street
went banans on 15th February, with a Ready Steady Cook session, challenging people to cook something with Fairtrade ingredients. They had spiced pineapple cake, bread pudding and chocolate sponge squares. The money raised went towards their Lent appeal. It was great fun, and finished with eating Fairtrade bananas

St Michaels Bedford Park
hosted a Fairtrade Winetasting on Tuesday September 15th, on behalf of Chiswick Churches for Justice and Peace. Harriet Lamb, the executive director of the Fairtrade Foundation, attended, as well as local restaurateurs who are being encouraged to stock Fairtrade wines. The local Sam's Brasserie provided the canapes.  Further details here
